Helgi Björns celebrated 40 years in music with a concert in Eldborg, wrapping up a nationwide tour. Known for his time as lead singer of Grafík and Síðan skein sól, as well as his solo career, Helgi’s music is timeless—an integral part of Iceland’s cultural fabric, much like Stuðmenn and Bubbi Morthens.
The evening was charged with nostalgia, and the audience couldn’t stay seated. People danced, sang along, and some even stole romantic moments during songs like Tangó from 1985, the new Himnasmiður, and the playful Ríðum sem fjandmenn. Helgi’s emotional yet effortless delivery, paired with his clear enunciation, brought out the romance in his repertoire, most of which revolved around love.
Performing with an outstanding band, Helgi delivered a polished and energetic show. Every note was spot-on, and the balance between solos and ensemble playing was perfect. Guest singer Salka Sól Eyfeld lit up the stage with her lively and vibrant presence, while the sound quality was rich, powerful, and crystal clear.
For many Icelanders, Helgi’s music is deeply nostalgic and a beloved part of their lives. It’s the kind of music that stays with you, much like the greats of Icelandic pop and rock.
Final Verdict:
A fantastic evening of timeless music, stellar performances, and joyful celebration.
